Many dead in Indian gas pipeline explosion

As many as 14 people have been killed after a gas pipeline exploded in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Ten people suffered injuries when a fire broke out in the pipe run by the Gas Authority of India Limited.

The state owned gas processing company says the cause of the explosion is unknown and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Witnesses say the pipe ruptured and flames swept through nearby houses.

Authorities expect the number of fatalities to rise.

The government has ordered a high level probe into the blast.
