Philadelphia man accused of being Nazi Guard

The family of 89-year-old Johann Breyer outside a Philadelphia federal court Wednesday.

Breyer is accused of being a Nazi guard and was arrested at home Tuesday.

German authorities want him extradited over the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Jews at Auschwitz.

SOUNDBITE (English) ASSISTANT U.S. ATTORNEY ANDREA FOULKES SAYING:

"158 train loads -- not individuals -- they're train loads of people."

Breyer admitted to being a former Nazi but denied he was involved in any deaths.

His defense attorney said Breyer was too old and frail to remain in custody.

But Sartia Gochal, whose parents survived the holocaust, believes Breyer needs to be brought to justice.

"Even if he's old and even if he passes away, I still think that he needs to be brought to trial."

Breyer has been living in Philadelphia for 30 years.
