137th Rath yatra countdown starts with jal yatra, Ahmedabad - Tv9 Gujarati

In Ahmedabad,Thousands of devotees with copper pots on their heads participated in the traditional Jal Yatra. A precursor of this month's Rath Yatra, the procession began from Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur. Apart from sea of devotees, the procession was dotted with elephants. Lord Jagannath's idol was taken to Sabarmati river for a holy bath, which indicates that he is ready for the Rath Yatra. The idol was then taken to the temple for Maha Abhishek that was witnessed by thousands of His devotees.Mythology has it that Lord Jagannath, after the holy bath, visits his maternal uncle. To carry on with this tradition, the idols of Lord Jagannath and his elder brother Balaram were taken to Ranchhodji Temple in Saraspur area of the city.
