Gunshots ring out in New Brunswick, Canada.

Authorities said a shootout between a 24-year-old gunman and Canadian police late Wednesday left three officers dead.

Now, the hunt for the alleged shooter, who Canadian Police have identified as Justin Bourque -- is mounting, with the suspect still at large.

Meanwhile, officers are mourning their losses.

Commanding Officer Roger Brown.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE COMMANDING OFFICER ROGER BROWN SAYING:

"This is perhaps the darkest day in the RCMP in New Brunswick. The RCMP family has lost three colleagues and three friends. Two officers are in the hospital and undergoing surgery. I met with families this morning prior to coming here and as you can imagine they are hurting. There is no way to describe the level of hurt."

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, taking part in the G7 in Brussels, offered his condolences.
