Creating a history with their national award winning film Shahid, Hansal Mehta and Rajkumar Rao are no less than assets for Bollywood! And with such an acclaimed success, how can we even think of things going wrong with their recent collaboration, CityLights, right? Produced by a brand like Mahesh Bhatt, while on one side we have our bets placed on Bhatt camp's blockbuster history to work in favor, the other side equally sides its highlight on superstars like Hansal and Rajkumar! So without running around our anticipations, let's find out how far has CityLights lived up to our high hopes set. Firstly, a quick brush up through the film's plot. 'CityLights' narrates the tale of a Rajasthan migrant Deepak coming to Mumbai, along with his wife Rakhi, in search of a better living. However, right on his first day, Deepak gets conned and directs his life towards hardship, misery and pain. Things slightly improve after he finally gets a job, but that again, only remains for the time being. So trapping himself with some never-ending struggles and how he rebels out of it is what the entire film is all about. Knowing that CityLights is an official adaptation of Hollywood film Metro Manila, this film definitely stands true to its original plot but further also blends in some heart touching elements with its Indian relevance. Right from the Rajasthani catch to the events that take place, the raw reality will emotionally push you to tears and smile you off with its beautiful screenplay. It's simple, yet thought provoking. Coming to the performances, Rajkumar shines as the real star! What a brilliant screen presence that will force you to live through his each moment...aah, he is too good! And moving onto Patralekha while she is simple, sweet and fills up the space with all her innocence, others like Manav Kaul comes as a great surprise in the film. Overall, CityLights definitely wouldn't cater to those who choose glamour and fun over content. It's a masterpiece for the ones who will live the content and breathe the sensation by connecting with it. Indeed, it's breathtaking! On the rating scale, we at Bollywood Uncut give it 4.5stars on 5!
