Pope bids farewell to Israel

Pope Francis bids farewell to Israel as he boards an El Al jet back to the Vatican.

During the last leg of his busy trip to the Mideast, he prayed at the Western Wall, one of the most holy of Jewish sites.

The pontiff also paid homage to Jews killed in the Holocaust at the the Yad Vashem Museum.

And a day after praying at a graffiti-sprayed Israeli security wall in Bethlehem, he made an unexpected stop to "Memorial to the Victims of Terror," engraved with the names of Israeli civilians killed in attacks by Palestinian militants.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian with successive English translation) POPE FRANCIS SAYING:

"I pray for all these victims. And for all the victims of terrorism in the world. Please, no terrorism anymore. It is an endless struggle."

Pope Francis has punctuated his visit to the Mideast with bold gestures, including an invitation to the Israeli and Palestinian Presidents to join him in "intense prayer" for peace at the Vatican.
