Blood spills in Sadr City

At least seven people are killed in a car bomb attack in Baghdad's Shi'ite neighborhood Sadr City.

It's the latest in a string of attacks across Iraq that left some 19 people dead.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.

But the attacks come as Sunni Islamist insurgents have been regaining ground and are known to target Shi'ites.

The past year has seen violence return to levels unseen since the darkest days of the U.S. military campaign in Iraq when hundreds of civilians were killed every month.

Preliminary results from the April 30 parliamentary election are expected within the coming days. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, a Shi'ite, is seeking a third term despite worsening violence that critics blame in no small part on his policies towards the country's Sunni minority.
