Iconic memorabilia goes under the hammer in NYC

More than 700 items having belonged to some of the world’s biggest music icons are going up for auction in New York.
The top lot comes from the Beatles.
One rare highlight is Jimi Hendrix’s first stage-used guitar, estimated to fetch between 50 000 and 100 000 dollars. And there will also be a Rolls Royce belonging to Lady Gaga.
“We have a great Rolls Royce here at the Hard Rock owned by Lady Gaga. And all of the proceeds from the sale of the Rolls Royce will go to benefit Music Cares, which is a charity supported by the Grammy Foundation,” says Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions.
Other memorabilia includes an MTV Award won by U2 and Bruce Springsteen’s harmonica. But nearly five years after his death, Michael Jackson remains a best-seller.
“We have over 200 items in this sale coming from the life and career of such an icon,” says Julien’s Auctions’ Martin Nolan. “We have some of his loafers signed by Michael Jackson himself – after a performance he signed them and gave them to a friend.”
A custom Versace silver sequin flightsuit worn by Lady Gaga is expected to go for around 10 000 dollars.
Julien’s Music Icons sale takes place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York’s Times Square on May 16 and 17.
