Pistorius social worker says bladerunner was "heartbroken"

The Oscar Pistorius murder trial resumed on Thursday in South Africa.

... With a social worker telling the court that Pistorius was heartbroken over the shooting of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) SOCIAL WORKER YVETTE VAN SCHALKWYK, SAYING:

(SOUNDBITE LAID OVER COURT INTERIORS)

"He vomited twice, one time when he came out of court he just sat down and started crying and crying..."

She was assigned to him after the incident and says she felt compelled to share her impressions with the court.

A surprise witness for the defense, she dismissed suggestions that Pistorius's emotional displays were an attempt to deflect tough questioning.

He was crying 80 percent of the time, she told them.

PROSECUTOR, GERRIE NEL, SAYING:

"So you saw him on the 15th. He killed her on the 14th, and you saw him on the 15th, and he said he missed her (Reeva)."

SOCIAL WORKER YVETTE VAN SCHALKWYK, SAYING:

"Yes, He missed Reeva
