STORY: A high-profile corruption trial involving the two billionaire co-chairmen of property goliath Sun Hung Kai Properties and a former senior government official started in Hong Kong on Thursday (May 8).
The five defendants -- Sun Hung Kai tycoon brothers, Thomas and Raymond Kwok, the city's former number two official Chief Secretary Rafael Hui, Sun Hung Kai executive director Thomas Chan and businessman Francis Kwan, faced a total of eight charges that involved an alleged HK$28million ($3.61million) in bribes.
In a pre-trial hearing in March 2013, they pleaded not guilty to all eight charges.
Thomas Kwok arrives first followed by his brother Raymond and then Hui.
The corruption case involves a series of payments and unsecured loans totalling million of dollars, between 2000 and 2009, allegedly paid to Hui through a number of financial entities by the four men, according to authorities.
