MQM has rejected all the allegations levelled against them by Amnesty International in their recent report.
MQM has announced that it will take legal action against Amnesty International and will hold a protest demonstration against them in front of Karachi Press Club on May 2 at 3.00 pm. This decision was taken in an emergency meeting of London and Pakistan Rabita Committees.
The Committee members discussed the allegations leveled in the report. Amnesty International said in its report that MQM has allegedly killed Journalist Wali Khan Babar, tortured Journalist Ali Chistie and threatened anchor-person Jasmeen Manzoor. They condemned the report and rejected all the allegations. They termed the report unfounded, baseless and fabricated. They called the report a “pack of lies”.
The Rabita Committee said that in the past two years dozens of MQM workers were arrested in front of their family members. They were taken to detention centers and subjected to inhuman torture and killed extra judicially and their bodies were thrown on road. They added dozens of MQM workers had become victims of enforced disappearances and their basic rights were violated. They deplored that Amnesty never mentioned about these human rights violations in their reports.
They said that the Supreme Court in its ‘Karachi Unrest Case’ has blamed Jamat-e Islami, Awami National Party, People Party, Sunni Tehreek and other political and religious parties for the law and order situation in Karachi too. They said it was strange Amnesty did not read the remark of the honorable court.
They deplored that the for the past 22 years Amnesty had been trying to portray MQM as a mafia and its workers killers, and killers of MQM workers innocent and oppressed people. They said that Amnesty had become a spokesman for thieves, smugglers, tyrant feudal lords and tyrant and corrupt government. They added this unfounded and baseless report had hurts the feelings of millions of MQM supports and public anger and protest over this report was natural.
