Three explosions hit the Yemeni capital Sanaa late Sunday night, injuring at least two people (February 2).

The first of three blasts took place in a residential area in central Sanaa when a minibus exploded near the eastern gate of the defence ministry.

A car then exploded near French embassy and the home of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the diplomatic district of Sanaa, followed by a mortar shell that landed 30 metres away from the embassy. At least two people were injured.

Shiite Houthi rebels based in the the northern mountains have been targeting areas near Sanaa in attempts to claim more authonouse units in federal Yemen.

In December, a suicide bomb attack carried out by al-Qaida-linked militants killed 56 people.
