Capsize ferry captain arrested

The captain of the South Korean ferry which capsized is led away by police on Saturday.

Lee Joon-seok faces five charges including negligence of duty in failing to help passengers.

Arrest warrants have also been issued for two other crew members.

The 69-year-old spoke briefly to reporters.

(SOUNDBITE)(Korean) LEE JOON-SEOK, CAPTAIN OF CAPSIZED FERRY, SAYING:

(He says he) "ordered the passengers to leave the ferry but later told them to stay because there was no rescue ship."

Video footage on the day the ferry capsized shows Lee arriving at port with the first group of survivors.

The ferry was carrying 476 passengers and crew.

So far at least 29 have been confirmed dead.

More than 270 others are still missing and hopes are fast fading of finding any of those alive.

The ferry, carrying mostly school students, capsized on the way from the port of Incheon to the holiday island of Jeju.
