IISc protests over Subsidy Cuts for Students (2014)

On 10th April, 2014 students of the reputed Indian Institute of Science came out in hundreds to protest against the proposed subsidy cut for messes which will markedly increase the mess bills. On top of that administration has been planning for a year to privatize the messes which will in turn increase the bills by leaps and bounds. This subsidy cut in being planned for other government institutes and universities. It is always the students who suffer. Also there has been no scholarship hike for research students since 2010. At present a regular PhD student gets 16K INR/month for the first 2 years and 18K/month for the next 3 years. Subsidy removal will result in mess bills around 5K plus students pay another 2K as hostel and academic fees per month.

Parliament receives 3.27 Lakhs Rupees subsidy PER DAY and Parliament is the place every second person is crorepati. These people want to put burden on students and research scholars who receive so meager scholarship monthly.

It's shame for policy maker to put this kind of policy. It's high time for students across the country to unite and fight for our rights.

Students Unite!! Please share it as much as you can..create awareness...be part of the change...!! Together We Stand, Divided We Fall..!!
