Poem Name: With a red dot in the middle
I want to fly a green flag with a red dot in the middle;
Green is the colour of the land which the red blood was spilled for;
In a war of independence back in 1971;
Fighting to be their own nation and not be ruled by Pakistan;
They were backed by Russia and Pakistan by the USA;
In a proxy that still ripples in what's going on today.
Now 43 years later they've doubled their population;
To 150 million people and each day it's getting greater;
And the land is getting smaller, because the sea level keeps on rising;
And their cities keep on swelling till there's no more room for driving.
Their politicians are quite appalling; they prefer to hide in London
Would their levels of corruption would warrant jail in the United Kingdom?
They spend millions on election campaigns and promise perks to those who fund them;
Like contracts to carry out work on convenient government projects;
But the people they claim to serve still suffer open sewers;
And the culture of corruption has spread through to every sector;
It's been normalized for years, those who engage don't feel the guilt;
The worst kept secrets of a country that's still ill....
Teachers teach half the syllabus then charge for private tuition;
Doctors let their patients pay them bribes to skip the queuing;
Police turn a blind eye to crime if they get a pay off;
The law makers encourage them and get a share of the profits.
People set up NGO's to milk donations for themselves;
They tarnish the work of the genuine, who get stifled by the system.
It wants to be a middle income country by 2021;
But they can't even keep the streets clean and feed everyone.
They ignore the disabled, they've killed off all the tigers.
Hundreds of thousands sleeping rough and the total's getting higher
I've got faith in microcredit and in social business;
It excites the outside world but the politicians block it.
Professor Mohammed Yunus is getting beaten up at home;
In a propaganda war driven by people who know;
That what he says makes a lot of sense if you're concerned for the poor;
Its only the general ignorance that keeps them from the door.
Education and awareness raising can do things that are quite amazing.
Be careful with your donation use it to grow a nation....
Givers and receivers must be taught about;
Donations that don't just get eaten up and shitted out.
Invest in education and proper sanitation;
And civil rights awareness and economic fairness.
