Animation and the Evolution of News Storytelling

Back in 2010, former CNN host Howard Kurtz had this to say about animation in news:

"That Tiger Woods animation was very entertaining but it was nothing approaching journalism...It didn't look like journalism. It didn't smell like journalism, it didn't feel like journalism. So let's not confuse a bunch of cartoons with what people in the news business do."

But things change. And over the past four years the way that people gather and consume news has evolved ever more dramatically. Now, big networks such as BBC, ABC and even CNN are regularly making use of animation in their news broadcasts. Broadcasts that recently helped Don Lemon win his time slots, beating Kurtz's new employers FOX into second place.

So perhaps it's time for Mr. Kurtz to start evolving?
