In the Ukraine city of Luhansk pro-Russian separatists reinforce barricades around the state security building they've occupied for days.

They're appealing to Russian President Vladimir Putin to help after Ukraine's government warned it may use force to restore order.

The separatists have been taking part in talks to ease the stalemate.

The building is one of three in eastern Ukraine seized by activists demanding regional referendums on independence from Kiev.

In Donetsk those occupying the regional administrative building were discussing how to proceed after declaring independence.

They said talks with Ukrainian authorities were still going on but they weren't sure what would happen.
