Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 Laptop Unboxing & Overview!

I just bought this less than a month ago for my step-son.
Best Buy had the laptop, by itself, on sale for $230... but their online site had it bundled with a pair of Skullcandy "Hesh 2" headphones and an anti-virus for the same $230. I chose the latter.

The A5300 is 15" is a very good budget pc that's under $250!
The laptop features:
* Full-size keyboard
* Intel Celeron processor
* Backlit display
* 4 GB of RAM
* Win 8 (64 bit)--upgradable to 8.1
* DVD±RW/CD-RW drive (multi-media)
* Wi-Fi at 802.11n (going back to "b")
But, the laptop weighs about 6 lbs--a bit on the heavy side.
*** Performance ***
The performance is quite good. You have an integrated keypad, so swipe the Windows "Tile" doesn't lag. (I don't like the Tile, but you can easily remove the tile in 8.0 but going on line and downloading a free app OR you can upgrade to 8.1 and go into the settings menu and revert it to the Windows 7/ Start page.) In any case, if you're giving this as a gift and you're not sure if they want to learn how to navigate around the Tile format, it maybe best to switch it to the familiar Start page and be done with it.
The system does NOT include MS Office, but there are at least 5 free Office Suites and I downloaded two for him and that'll save you another $75. Or, a better option would be Corel's WordPerfect 6 which is far superior, in my mind, than MS Office.
Intel's Celeron processors are their budget line of processors--so if you need a laptop where you'll be doing intensive graphic-oriented work, high-end gaming or sound-editing, you will see a definite hit in performance. The Celeron's are just for people who want a laptop to do basic tasks: writing letters, surfing the web, Skyping.
~ At the moment, on this page, Amazon has this laptop--in the description section--listed as having a "Pentium 4" processor, that's a mistake it is the "Celeron 1037U" processor.
