Disabled mother strangled after son chains her up with bicycle lock

An elderly woman with a mental disability was strangled to death in New Taipei City after her son used a bicycle lock to chain her up in the bathroom.
The son said he locked the 64-year-old woman up for her own safety because she often sole food from local convenience stores.
The mother had been tied up by the neck to metal bars in the bathroom. She couldn't even sit down because the restraint was not long enough. After two days, the exhausted woman could not stand up anymore and was strangled to death by the bicycle lock.
The son claimed he had tried sending his mom to care centers but could not afford the roughly US$8,000 fee.
