Chilean fishermen picking up pieces of livelihood a week after quake

Chilean fishermen are getting back in the water in Iquique.

They're trying to salvage everything they can after a tsunami pounded the city a week ago.

A magnitude 8.2 quake sparked the tsunami, which sent 2 meter waves crashing into the coast.

With crews pulling the remaining debris from the water, the Iquique port captain says the city is almost back to normal.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CAPTAIN GASTON GUERRERO LOPEZ SAYING:

"To see it get going again, to see maritime activity, to see things arriving to the ports - this generates the movement of trucks and also businesses and this reactivates the city, and I think that to be able to get back to work a week after the earthquake, I think these activities are good signs of recuperation."

Many are now rebuilding.

The longer they're out of the water, the longer they're out of an income.
