STORY: Scuffles erupted between protesters and Israeli border police on Saturday as Palestinians marched through the streets of Jerusalem one day ahead of the 38th anniversary of "Land Day".

An Israeli police spokeswoman said that border police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to break up the demonstration. Four journalists, three paramedics and a boy were injured. Six Palestinians were arrested.

"Land Day" commemorates the 1976 Israeli government announcement to expropriate Arab land in the Galilee region, that resulted in a general Arab-Israeli strike and mass marches. The annexation of the land was seen by the Arab community as a means of altering the demographics in the Galilee in favor of Israelis.

In the 1976 confrontations between Israeli security forces and Israeli Arabs, six Israeli Arabs were killed.

Ever since, March 30th has become a Palestinian day of commemoration.
