Taliban attack election commission headquarters in Kabul

A convoy of Afghan security forces head to the Independent Election Commission headquarters in Kabul, as gunmen launch an attack.

Suicide bombers have entered a nearby building and are firing at the election commission with automatic weapons.

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) GENERAL MOHAMMAD ZAHIR, KABUL POLICE CHIEF, SAYING:

"A group of terrorists entered inside a building which is 800 meters away from Independent Election commission, the fighting is still going, Kabul Crises Rescue Unit (CRU) of police is leading the the operation and very soon we will clear it."

Afghan special forces surround the area, which is close to offices used by the United Nations and other international organisations.
