On Friday masked gunmen shot and killed a policeman in Tripoli.

It's the second killing of a member of the security forces in two days.

Security sources say the policeman was killed instantly when the gunmen opened fire on his car at around 5:30 in the morning.

The shooting comes a day after Lebanon's new cabinet approved a security plan for Tripoli, where at least 29 people have been killed in the last two weeks.

"We are with the security plan, but what is the security plan they are talking about? The people behind the security plan are the politicians in Tripoli. If the politicians wanted to end it, they would have ended it a long time ago."

Fighting has raged in Tripoli this month between members of the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam, and majority Sunni Muslims - who have also clashed with security forces.
