In this lesson, Justin will focus on clarifying common verbs that are very similar - Look, see and watch. The words used in this class can be hard to master, but once its done, it will have a significant impact on your oral English (for TOEFL, IELTS or just casual speak). English Lesson - Look/See/Watch
Hello everyone, this time, we will focus on three verbs that are very similar, but still have some difference that non-native speakers have trouble picking up. I'll explain how to tell them apart and then give examples.
Look: We use look to signify "attention with the eyes". For example: "Look at this" or "Take a look".
See: We use see to mean we registered something in our head. "I see him", "I've seen that movie" or even to mean we understand something "I see".
Watch: We use watch to describe an activity. "I've watched that show", "He's watching you" We can further understand this with the expression "to be on watch".
Some sentences can accept more than one verb. For example, if I'm about to show a hockey move to my friend, I can both say "Look at this" and "Watch this", though "watch" is stronger/more compelling
