Sports Criminals: Lee Murray

Lee Murray is a natural-born brawler. Having been brought up in a broken home with an abusive father in a tough part of South East London, Murray quickly figured out that if he wanted to take control of his life, he'd have to use his fists.

By the time he was a teenager, Murray was regularly stealing and dealing drugs. After being convicted of possessing drugs and doing a stint at a juvenile detention center, Murray began bulking up for a career in mixed martial arts. At the same time, he went back to his South London drug empire and continued to build up a reputation among the police as a "very dangerous man."

After winning eight small-time fights, Murray won his one and only UFC bout against Jorge Rivera. Visa difficulties and injuries Murray consistently sustained in street brawls kept his career from going further.

In June 2006, Lee was arrested in Morocco on suspicion of being involved with the Securitas depot robbery -- a grand-scale heist in which $88 million was stolen and several Securitas employees were kidnapped. For his involvement in the epic theft, Murray was sentenced to 10 years in a Moroccan prison, though eventually that was bumped up to 25.
