Movies Based On Real Life: A Few Good Men

"You can't handle the truth" is one of Hollywood's most iconic lines. Though it may not have ever actually been said, aspects of which the case that prompted the line are very much real.
Aaron Sorkin based the infamous "Code Red" case on a real event in which a man named David Cox was convicted on a simple assault charge. Like in the film, Cox believed what he did was justified because the order came from a superior officer. While the fictional characters were convicted of conduct unbecoming of an officer and dishonorably discharged, Cox received an honorable discharge and went into civilian life in peace...until the movie came out.
Cox was angered that his story was being used without permission and brought a lawsuit against the production company. He also made a lot of noise about the situation and in the process discussed a few truths behind "code-reds." Yet Cox's lawsuit never saw the inside of a courtroom and neither did Cox for that matter. In January 1994, Cox vanished without a trace, until three months later when his dead (bullet-riddled) body was found in a remote wooden area.
His murder remains unsolved.
