Arsene Wenger: Managers need time to learn the job

The Arsenal manager speaks ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea on Monday, a game Ashley Cole looks set to miss after being seen attending the Gunner's Christmas party

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels all managers need time - and recalled how people thought he was crazy when suggesting former Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas would require just that to settle in all of his summer buys.

"To be given time it's important first of all. When you have a young manager you need to learn the job. Nobody goes in the job at 33 or 34 years of age and knows the job. If he is not given the time, somebody else comes in and it's the same problem," he said.
He insisted Arsenal's upcoming clash with Chelsea on Monday was "not a personal battle."

"What is at stake for us is to come back to winning habits," he said.
