RA begins a new series of short films by asking Scratcha DVA to play us three cuts.

The idea behind RA's new film series, Three Cuts, couldn't be more simple. We ask an artist to play us three of their tracks: an early production, a key release and an upcoming selection.
To begin the series we took the train to Manor Park in East London to meet Leon Smart, AKA Scratcha DVA. Through his old slot as Rinse FM's breakfast show host we—along with most of the listenership—grew to love Smart's early morning banter and charismatic presentation style, making him an ideal choice for the first Three Cuts film. Aside from his radio presence, Smart's colourful and impulsive brand of UK club music has been a mainstay of Kode9's Hyperdub label. He also runs DVA Music, which has released around a dozen 12-inches since setting up in 2003, and it's around this time period we begin Three Cuts.
