Thousands of Bosnians call on regional government to quit

Thousands of Bosnians have rallied in several towns to demand their government’s resignation.

The protests, which began in Tuzla against corruption and unemployment, have plunged the country into crisis.

Senad Cizmic, who was made redundant from a shoe factory voiced the concerns of many: “People are unhappy, we have no rights, we have no jobs. 600,000 people are unemployed in this country, 700,000 live below the poverty line, people have nothing to eat.”

The anti-government protests have started to spread to other parts of the country; and have already brought down four out of 10 cantonal district authorities.

Nermin Niksic, prime minister of the Bosniak-Croat Federation, has ruled out stepping down but says he is in favour of early elections.
