A solitary mid-terrace house is left stranded in the middle of a road in China, after one resident refused to move when authorities destroyed the rest of the street.

A mid-terrace house in China is left standing in defiance, in the middle of a road in China, after one resident refused to move when the rest of the street was demolished.

The resident of a three-storey building in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province has repeatedly refused to move to allow the local government to build a new road, leaving her building like an island in the middle of the new tarmac.

The resident, who gave her name only as Ms Abao, says she is not satisfied with the compensation offered by the local government and so has decided to stay put.

There were 20 families living in the building but now all other residents has moved except Ms Abao and her family.
