Boy hero saves six from fire, dies

Eight-year-old Tyler Doohan is being hailed as a true hero by residents in Penfield, New York after the 4th grader lost his life in a fire while saving six people.

Knowing that Monday was a national holiday, Tyler asked his mom if he could spend Sunday night at his grandfather's trailer home in Penfield, New York. Grandpa's home was a favorite place for Tyler, who enjoyed barbecuing and bonfires with his relatives, who lived there as well, as well as playing with the neighborhood kids.

But at around 4:30 a.m., Tyler woke to find the trailer filling with smoke. He quickly woke up two of his cousins who were also staying over. Tyler also managed to wake up his grandmother, aunt and two other adults in the trailer before ushering them to safety.

After rescuing the lives of six people, Tyler discovered that his grandfather and disabled uncle has not yet escaped. He bravely charged back into the burning trailer to rescue them, but he never returned. Firefighters later found three bodies in the trailer, and a spokesperson for the Penfield fire department said that without the boy's heroic actions, more lives would most certainly have been lost.

The principal at the school Tyler attended said the boy's actions were not out of character as he was known for his kindness and "good heart." The boy lived with his mom in Rochester, New York, and residents there say Tyler Doohan is beyond question a hero and an example to the whole town.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there is speculation that an electrical device in the front of the trailer may have caused the blaze. Questions are also being raised as to why so many people were living in the trailer, which was described as "beat up and old."
