Olympic Torch arrives in Sochi

STORY: The Olympic flame kept burning as it arrived in Sochi, Russia the host city of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

To the cheering of a crowd, the torchbearers arrived on stage and used the opportunity to preserve the sacred flame, which started its journey in Moscow on October 7, 2013, by transferring it to the safety of a miner's lamp.

Fans also took the opportunity to take photos with the official Sochi 2014 Olympic mascots - the Polar Bear, the Hare and the Leopard.

The Olympic flame later neared its final destination with a journey around the mountains that will host the winter games.

Russian bobsleigher - and arm wrestling world champion - Alexey Voevoda was on hand to carry the flame on stage in Rosa Khutor.

Earlier, the flame had arrived by train from the coastal resort of Sochi, some 40 kilometres away.

The opening ceremony for the games takes place on Friday, February 7.
