International Novelty Orchestra - 'What Care I' medley

This appears to be a pseudonym for a studio orchestra led by Nat Shilkret. For more detailed information about Shilkret, I refer to my other uploads of records by this conductor. This side features a catchy dance band version of two tunes from "Princess Flavia", an operetta in three acts, with book and lyrics by Harry B. Smith and music by Sigmund Romberg, based on The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope. It was originally entitled “A Royal Pretender". Produced by Lee Shubert and J. J. Shubert, the Broadway production, opened on November 2, 1925 at the Century Theatre and then moved to the Shubert Theatre for a total run of 152 performances. The cast included Douglass R. Dumbrille, John Clarke, Margaret Breen, and Evelyn Herbert and over 130 others. Hungarian born composer Romburg is best remembered for other Broadway operettas such as The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg, The Desert Song and The New Moon. This sparkling 1926 recording features "What Care I" (4th song of Act I), introducing "Twilight Voices" (2nd song of Act II) .
