ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

Officials in Maryland say the deceased male suspect behind a shooting incident at the Mall of Columbia outside Baltimore on Saturday (Jan 25) was found with large amounts of ammunition on and around his body.

Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon said the shooters' identify remained unknown and hinted that the cause was because investigators had not yet been able to closely examine the body out of concern that other weapons or explosives may be present.

"When our officers approached, he was obviously deceased but he also still had a large amount of ammunition on or about him," McMahon told reporters during an afternoon news conference in the mall parking lot.

"We are approaching this with an abundance of caution and we are getting assistance from some of our federal partners in making sure there are no explosives on the body of the deceased," he said.

The shooting occurred at around 11:15 am local time in the upper level
