At the Ali Babolo mosque in Bangui, bad news comes in body bags.

Joseph Carite, the former health minister under the Muslim Seleka government, is killed in the latest sectarian bloodshed.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) VICE PRESIDENT DE LA JEUNESSE MUSULMANE (MUSLIM YOUTH), MAMOUD HISSENE, SAYING:

"He wasn't even holding any function with the Seleka. He was excluded by the Seleka. But as he was a Muslim official, they cowardly killed him because of that."

Back on the streets -- in the Miskine neighborhood -- gunshots ring out.

As residents seek shelter, French and African peacekeepers rush to enter the neighborhood.
