A fresh layer of snow could be seen at the White House and at some of Washington's most popular tourist attractions ahead of a storm that could dump as much as foot of snow on parts of the northeastern U.S.
Determined visitors negotiated slick steps and already bitter temperatures.

"It's just cool to see all of the historic sites of what our nation was founded upon, so it's exiting, cold."

"It's a lot of snow and it's going to be cold tomorrow but that's ok with us."
For some, the white stuff was as much of an attraction as the monuments.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) JOE ZAGURSKY, TOURIST FROM FLORIDA, SAYING:
"It's awesome, we love it, we don't get this ever in Florida."
In New York's Time Square, snowy streets and a sense of dread about the approaching cold front.
