William Hill bookmakers gave the Steve McQueen movie odds of 2/7 to win best film at the Oscars.
Despite being the firm favorite the bookmaker reports 90 percent of bets being placed in the UK are actually on "American Hustle".
However, William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams says it's likely the slave drama will appeal more to the Academy.

"The reality is, is if you look historically at what the Academy like it really does tick all the boxes. It is not necessarily the most enjoyable sit-down viewing, but it is incredible, brilliant cinematography, it is a great story, there are some great performances, you know, it does tick all the boxes."
