"Hustle," "Gravity" lead Oscar noms, Sundance launches

The nominations for the 86th annual Academy Awards have been announced and con-men caper "American Hustle" received ten nods, including best picture and nods for its actors, Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper. It also garnered a nod for its director David O. Russell.

Tying for most nods, "Gravity" also received ten nominations including best picture, best actress for Sandra Bullock and best director for Alfonso Cuaron.

Historical drama "12 Years a Slave" received nine nominations. In addition to the best picture category, it also earned nods for actors Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Lupita Nyong'o. The Academy will hand out the Oscars at a ceremony in Los Angeles on March 2.

The Sundance Film Festival launched on Thursday (January 16) in Park City, Utah. This year's festival will feature 117 films and play host to a variety of Hollywood stars including Kristen Stewart, Michael Fassbender, and Keira Knightley.
