A family’s pet parrot, named Pearly, was responsible for potentially saving their lives from a house fire.

Dogs often alert their owners of any danger inside the home, whether it is an intruder or a fire. But in a recent and bizarre case, a family’s pet parrot, named Pearly, was responsible for potentially saving lives.

A fire broke out in the house in Fort Lauderdale. The occupants inside had no clue what was going on until they were harshly awoken at 3:45 in the morning, by Pearly incessantly and frantically squawking.

They got out of bed to investigate the problem and discovered their house was filled with smoke. Fortunately everyone was able to get out safely.

Pearly’s owner stated “What we heard was a screeching like we've never heard before. We thought maybe he got his foot caught in his trapeze. I figure he saved us five to 10 minutes in getting the fire department here. The fire could have easily spread to the roof.”

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to a laundry room in the residence and eventually put out the blaze. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

As for Pearly, he was given his favorite treat for the heroic act…..an apple.
