Big Data in Climate Research | Tomorrow Today

Digital data forms the basis of practically all climate research. And nowhere is that more obvious than in Hamburg, where a cluster of institutes specialize in this field. Satellites and measuring stations provide a constant flow of new data. The amount of data is so vast that it takes a supercomputer called "Blizzard" to process it.

In this way, scientists are developing mathematical models of the global climate that are increasingly precise, with more and more high-resolution images. This information provides the basis for the difficult process of predicting climate trends in the decades to come.
