Bad weather puts a damper on Christmas in south of UK

It has been a wet Christmas for many people in the south of England, where more than 1,000 homes have been flooded due to heavy rainfall.

Around 7,000 properties remained without power on the evening of Thursday, December 26.

The UK Environment Agency said it expected the stormy weather to continue for the next few days.

The north of Italy has been hit by high winds, heavy rain and snow in several areas, which has caused transport disruption and several injuries.

Two families had to be evacuated from their homes in Premana, in the Lombardy region – after a mudslide covered part of the town.

A skier is in a critical condition after being swept up by an avalanche in the mountains near Bardonecchia, which is close to Turin.
