ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: A bomb was discovered along former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf's route to court minutes before the start of his trial for treason in Islamabad on Tuesday (December 24), local media reported.

Geo news, quoting paramilitary Rangers sources, reported that a five kilogramme bomb and two pistols were found in a bag along the road near the National Institute of Health. However it reported the bomb was not activated.

The Bomb Disposal Squad and police launched an investigation.

Musharraf's case, initiated by the Pakistani government, focuses on accusations that the former military leader breached the constitution when he imposed emergency rule in 2007.

The charges mark a serious challenge to the country's powerful army and could result in the execution of a man who was once the most powerful in the country.
