Israel says reports of spying by US "unacceptable"

The United States has found itself in hot water once again over new revelations that it spied on Israel.
Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has leaked more documents showing the NSA and its British counterpart GCHQ had in 2009 targeted the then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and senior defence officials.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Concerning matters published in the past few days, I have asked for an examination of the matter. In the close ties between Israel and the United States there are things that must not be done and that are not acceptable to us.”
Israel joins a long list of US allies to have come under surveillance.
Earlier this year, there was anger in several European countries when documents showed US operations had taken place within their territories.
The new documents are set to cause further damage to the reputation of the US with reports that heads of international charities, foreign energy companies, and UN and EU officials being monitored.
It has been reported in Germany that Snowden has offered to help the country investigate spying activity on its soil if he is granted asylum there.
