Sarah is 16 years old, an age when a person usually feels the future lies ahead. But, for this rebellious teenager, life is instead a day-by-day affair, consisting of petty crime and deals. With Louis, her friend, she robs people who have had the bad idea to pick her up when she hitches rides. All goes well until the day that one of these encounters veers off the rails and a man is killed. Sarah then decides to become friends with  Françoise, the victim's wife.
