The teen shooter who opened fire with a shotgun at Arapahoe High School near Denver on Friday (December 13) was also armed with a machete and molotov cocktails, and likely intent on inflicting multiple injuries, say police.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson told reporters during a news conference on Saturday (December 14) that 18-year-old Karl Pierson, who critically injured one student on campus before apparently taking his own life, also had multiple rounds of shotgun ammunition strapped across his body as well as a very large knife, or "machete".

Pierson also had a backpack which contained three Molotov cocktails, one of which he ignited inside the library during the assault, Robinson said.

"It is my very strong opinion that individual would not have come to this school armed with a shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition had he not intended to use those rounds of ammunition to injure multiple people," Robinson told
