Newtown marks anniversary of tragic shooting

Harrowing images America will never forget. And for the residents of Newtown, the emotions are far greater.

One year ago today, a gunman opened fire in Sandy Hook Elementary School - killing 20 children and six adults.

Bells rang in Newtown to honor those killed... as residents quietly marked the anniversary, requesting media to keep their distance.

For many, time has done little to ease the loss. Annette Lobis used to call her grandson Benjamin Wheeler, "Jackson Pollock the Second."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ANNETTE LOBIS, BEN WHEELER'S GRANDMOTHER, SAYING:

"My daughter and my son-in-law put Ben's paintings together in a book. And they had several made for the family. And I could only look at it one time. They gave it to me a couple months ago. And I'll be ready for it later, but right now I just can't look at it. We're missing him terribly."
