Philippines still in ruins one month after Haiyan

A 13 year old boy and 9 year old girl stand along a busy road in central Philippines cleaning up the graves of their mother and two older siblings.

It was the only land available to use as a burial site after Super Typhoon Haiyan flattened the region one month ago.

Theirs is a story shared by thousands of others who lost loved ones in the storm.

Dandi Pajanilla rushed back to the region from his job in the northern province to find his pregnant wife and other family members missing.

He has been searching for them ever since, but has little hope of finding them alive.

(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) RESIDENT DANDI PAJANILLA SAYING:

"It's really sad remembering your loved ones, especially this coming Christmas when they are no longer there. I always ask myself, why did God take them away from me?"

Haiyan destroyed more than one million homes and caused over hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
