Fast food shutdown as US workers strike

Fast food workers across the US have staged a 24-hour strike against apparent low wages.

The organisers want the country’s minimum wage raised to over €10 an hour, the equivalent of a €5.60 hike.

Those behind the action hope over 100 cities will take part during the action.

President Obama has already lent his backing to a Senate bid to raise the hourly rate to just over €7.

Even if passed, the bill may still struggle to get approval from the Republican backed House of Representatives.
