Move over Harry Potter, The Hunger Games is taking over your number one box office spot. It was a record breaking weekend this Thanksgiving at the box office, and it comes as no surprise that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire came out on top but it also set a new record for both the 3-day and 5 day holiday weekend box office numbers. From Wednesday to Sunday, the film brought in over $110 million domestically which definitely beat Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's Thanksgiving record which brought in around $57.5 million back in 2001. These weekend totals basically mean that after 10 days the Hunger Games sequel has already made a whopping $296 million domestically and about $573 million worldwide. However, Catching Fire wasn't the only box office hit this weekend. Disney's animated film, Frozen also beat Harry Potter's holiday record and while it couldn't beat Catching Fire's $110 million, it had a very impressive opening making around $93 million over the five day period, and not only did well at the box office, fans really loved the film giving it an A+ CinemaScore. Still appealing to the superhero fans, Thor: The Dark World was holding on to third place this weekend, making $15 million, but Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy was not a favorite at all among audiences, and only brought in $1.3 million over the 5 day weekend.
