Three inmates who escaped from a southeast Missouri jail on Monday night were found on Tuesday five miles from the jail.

The three men were being held in the same area when they escaped. First, they broke through the drywall of the ceiling and climbed out. The inmates then crawled through the air ducts to break out. The escapees then walked 5 miles to a salvage yard where one of the inmates was previously employed.

Authorities were doing a systematic search of the salvage yard when they opened up the cab of a truck and discovered the three inmates. All three men had been jailed awaiting trial.
